NEW HOPE FOR DRAYTON MINE WORKERS

Staff at Anglo American’s Drayton mine near Muswellbrook have been assured work until early next year, after being told the company will submit a final proposal to the state government for its Drayton South project.

The extension – which would increase the life of the mine and secure 500 jobs – was rejected by the Planning Assessment Commission last month.

It found the project wasn’t in the public interest, and would threaten internationally-renowned horse studs nearby.
