A number of “fisher gatherings” are being held along the north coast this week.
The state government is encouraging commercial fishers and their families to head to the meetings in Coffs Harbour, Evans Head and Ballina.
The meetings allow anglers to ask questions and learn about training opportunities.
Currently the government is considering banning prawn trawling in the Solitary Islands Marine Park, and increasing the sanctuary zone to 20 per cent.
