A man used a lump of wood to threaten staff during a hold up at the Abermain newsagency, just before 11am.
The alleged offender made off on foot with a small amount of money, sparking a search of the area.
He’s described as having a bald head, was wearing black clothing and carrying a blue shopping bag.
A woman thought to be the alleged offender’s accomplice was detained by police in a car a short distance from the robbery.
