RESIDENT CLASHES WITH COUNCIL OVER TREE REMOVAL

A Maitland man is in a stoush with the council, after it attempted to clear land at the front of his property, as part of plans for a new cycleway.
Terry Bourke called police, saying council has no right to enter the land on Cessnock Road and remove the vegetation.
“The new boundary runs through corner of the house//we’d be totally exposed, we get shelter from existing vegetation.”
Maitland Council says it’s been in discussions with the family for two years, and believes Mr Bourke doesn’t have title for the portion of land in question.
