WOY WOY HOSPITAL NOT CLOSING – JUST THE REHAB UNIT

Woy Woy Hospital’s rehabilitation unit will close but the state government says patient care won’t be jeopardised.

Despite community concern over the unit’s relocation to Wyong, a new 20 bed transitional care unit will replace it.

  1. The NSCCAHS critical point on the closure of Woy Woy Rehab. is that by having it relocated to Wyong Hospital acute services will be readilly available on site.
Why should acute services be required for people who are in a Rehab. environment except in exceptional circumstances.
Indeed if people were not transferred to a Rehab. environment in the first place whilst still suffering an ‘acute’ medical condition the need to transport these folk anywhere barring for the occassional medical exam would be unnessary.
The reason for the transfer of people in an unstable medical condition to Woy Woy Rehab. is simple mathamatics. BED NUMBERS and how many people have been transported back to Gosford Hospital because of this mis-managment.
I am young but I am certainly not stupid and by the way. People die in the Transitional Care Facillity also.

  2. Rehabilatition patients by defination dont need acute care. 9000 people over 65 are here onn the Woy woy penin sula because many of them antasapatd the need for the mediac amenity on the Woy Woy Peninsula. I am leading the fight to return those rehab beds back where they belong., Unfortunatly those already bound to hospitl beds need their children and grand children to reject the labor government attempt to steal amenity from those who paid to put it is place.

  3. There is a big question over the recommendation for removal of the rehabilitation beds from Woy Woy Hospital. My interview with Ann Maguire the state manager of NSW Healthscope interest several weeks ago confirmed reports that Healthscope Limited Melbourne held aspirational desires to expand its services into the rehabilitation of patients. Ann Maguire told me Brisbane Waters Private Hospital “footprint” was insufficient to allow the expansion. She told me that BWPH Management had pointed out to her that there was available ward space next door at Woy Woy Hospital as the Rehab had been closed. BWPH had sent a letter of inquiry to Woy Woy Hospital she said. I have raised concerns that a conflict may have existed between those making recommendations for the closure and the best interest of the 36 thousand residents and potential patients of the Public Hospital. Political involvement in this fight has been hamstrung because as usual political aspirations take precedent over ratepayers medical needs. The Woy Woy Public Hospital will no longer be called a Public Hospital. There is nothing to prevent its total disappearance now that the income from the Rehab ward has been mover to Kanwal where Wyong hospital is, twenty dollars from Wyong station one way. The so called free buss is funded by the same taxpayers who are being conned by NSW State government. Edward James 0243419140http:woywoyrehab.org/
