RURAL DOCTORS CALL FOR BUSH MATERNITY SERVICES

The Rural Doctors Association of Australia has welcomed the Federal Government’s Maternity Services Review Report,

believing it provides a strong way forward for improving access to maternity services in the bush.

Over the past decade more than 50 per cent of rural maternity units have been closed, forcing pregnant women to travel great distances to give birth.

The Rural Doctors Association is calling for state and Commonwealth funding to reopen and support maternity units in remote towns.
