STUDY TO BRIDGE GAPS IN YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH RESEARCH

Research shows mental health problems can often develop in the teenage years, but little is known about how youth seek help and support.
Taree occupational therapist Lauren Vaughan (VORN) is aiming to find that out.
She’s conducting a study into how parents provide that support during the early stages of mental illness.
“We know that young people talk to their parents, to their friends and their family the most…It’s really finding out what language they use and how they have those conversations. How they start, what they’re looking for if they’re concerned about their young person.”
Parents of teenagers aged between 12 and 17 living in the Greater Taree area are eligible to participate in the study.
