STARVATION MOTHER APPEALS MURDER CONVICTION

The mother of a girl who died from starvation in squalid conditions near Newcastle five years ago, has launched an appeal against her sentence and murder conviction.
The seven-year-old, known only as Ebony, was found weighing just nine kilograms in the family’s Hawks Nest home in November 2007.
Her mother is appealing her life sentence on the grounds the jury in her trial was not given adequate directions.
Ebony’s father was sentenced to a minimum 12 years jail for manslaughter.
