LOCAL REMEMBRANCE

In Newcastle, the tolling of the bell from City Hall’s clocktower at 11am, brought home the sacrifices
of hundreds of Hunter people who’ve served and died for Australia.

From this region alone, about 10,000 people took part in the first world war, while 29,000 served in World War Two.

Even now, the Hunter has military personnel deployed overseas.

And the baton of remembrance has been passed to a new generation, as demostrated by pupils from Carrington Public School, who this morning held their own ceremony at Connolly Park.
