The new bridge on Sandgate Road over the inner city bypass at Shortland is now open to traffic.
It’s an important milestone for the Shortland to Sandgate section of the Newcastle inner city bypass project.
The speed limit will remain at 60km/h on the Sandgate Road Bridge.
Work will continue in the coming months across the bypass site, including installing bridge supports at Deepbridge Creek and the Main Northern Railway, as well as the completion of steel girder assembly work for the twin railway bridges.
