A 63-year-old surgical nurse from Charlestown has won the New South Wales Senior Australian of the Year award.
Lyn Thorpe was recognised for her tireless work around the world, helping to repair cleft lips and palates, heal horrific burns, and perform cataract operations.
Mrs Thorpe was also part of a team that helped bring a young burns victim from Papua New Guinea to Australia, for life-changing treatment.
