Lake Cathie is once again open to the sea, after excavators rolled in this afternoon to move sand out of the channel.
Heavy rain over the weekend raised the water level above 1.6 metres, prompting Port Macquarie-Hastings Council to artificially open the lake.
The work will help reduce silt and improve water quality.
On average the lake is artificially opened once every year.
