TAREE STUDENTS TRY ‘OUT OF THE BOX’ TRADES

A rare opportunity for more than 50 high-school students, who today tested their skills in non-traditional gender trades.
An initiative by Taree’s Tafe campus, ‘Try a Trade Day’ provided girls with hands-on experience in male dominated trades such as construction and automotive.
While the boys had a taste in health, beauty and children’s services.
“It’s really important because the jobs of the future we need people to think big around the path that may take them to a future career,” Maura Luxford from North Coast Tafe says.
Students also had the chance to speak with industry leaders that work within the non-traditional professions.
