A holiday outing to a Go Kart track near Newcastle ended in tragedy this afternoon when a young woman was strangled in a freak accident.
The 27-year-old had been wearing a scarf which became tangled in the drive mechanism of her Go Kart and quickly tightened around her neck.
Paramedics rushed to the Port Stephens Go Kart track just after 2.30 and worked to revive the woman before she was flown to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital by rescue helicopter, in a serious condition. However she died a short time later.
It’s believed the woman was holidaying here with her family at Nelson Bay, from Sydney.
Police and Workcover inspectors are investigating how the accident happened.
