TRADES SKILL SHORTAGE LOOMS

With the uptake of trade apprenticeships now appearing to have bottomed out, a peak training company is urging employers to help foster home grown talent or they could be forced to import trainees from overseas.
After 30 years in the business and more than 18,000 apprentices, the Hunter Valley Training Company has identified a looming shortage of skilled workers in key trade areas.
Fitters and boiler makers are down, as well as electricians.
HVTC Chairman Milton Morris says
” This is a wake up call, in 12 months or 2 years time we’ll be screaming for trade skills, now’s the time to take them on…and we’re putting young people onto life’s journey and they’re set for life.”
