While most of us were sleeping early this morning, a gutsy young lifeguard was hitting the waves, to paddle from Newcastle to Sydney.
A band of supporters was on hand to see off 26-year-old Juliana Bahr-Thomson, on her 150-kilometre charity paddle to Bondi.
Juliana is raising funds for motor neurone disease research, and the Surfrider Foundation.
Her journey is expected to take four days.
