KORFF’S TREASURES SAFE AND SOUND

Coffs Harbour’s earliest European history has been preserved for future generations thanks to some careful conservation work.
The belongings of the city’s namesake, Captain John Korff (pron COUGH) , have undergone meticulous cleaning and repairs.
He first took shelter in the harbour 150 years ago.
“Obviously with the items being used everyday, pages get torn and also the ink inscriptions and become acidic which means the ink had started to eat through the paper.”
Among Korff’s belongings, a bible telescope, the family crest, a photograph and even a business card.
On hand for the unveiling was Korff’s great great granddaughter.
“It’s quite weird to see things that were used 200 years ago and are still in working oder in some cases and things like business cards which used in those days they’re not new inventions.”
