JAKE HIGGINBOTTOM NOW AUSTRALIA’S TOP JUNIOR GOLFER

The Hunter can now lay claim to having the best junior golfer in Australia, following Jake Higginbottom’s win at the Victorian Junior Championship.

If the talented teenager can hold onto his number one ranking for the rest of the year, he’ll earn the right to play in the world’s top junior tournament.

Mitchell Hughes started as a tape editor in Newcastle in 1999. He became a reporter in 2004, working in Lismore and on the Gold Coast. Since moving back to the Newcastle office in 2006, he's taken on various roles, such as producer and chief of staff. He became the head sport reporter in 2011 and the main sport presenter in 2015.

    On winning the 23rd China Mens’ Amateur Open held at the Peach Garden Golf Club in Nan Hai in China last Saturday 4th December, 2010!
    This is an outstanding achievement at the age of seventeen years!.
    In addition to this win, Jake also came in as the very creditable Runner-Up, by a mere ONE shot, in the Aaron Baddeley International Junior Championship also held in China, the previous week.
    You have done yourself; your Dad, Bruce, Mum,Julie; your family ; your club and your country . . . SO PROUD! Your family is enormously proud of you, Jake!
