CHRISTMAS CHEER LIGHTS UP NEWCASTLE CBD

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Newcastle’s CBD – with the finishing touches being put on light displays to make buildings look a little festive.
Tomorrow night (Friday 29 November) the displays will light up, alongside a festival with live performances and late night shopping.
It’s all about spreading the festive cheer, and trying to draw people back into the city centre.
“There are many cities around the world that make high street shopping at Christmas time an experience and these experiences attract locals and tourists alike. A prime example is Oxford Street in London – the Christmas lights getting switched on is an event in itself and this buzz carries on throughout the whole Christmas period.” said Lord Mayor Jeff McCloy.
The Old Post Office Building will be central to the display with a 25m high Christmas tree to be projected onto the side of the building.
Shoppers are also being given a Christmas present with free parking every Friday night after 5pm at the King Street parking station.
The festivities kick off on Friday night at 6.
