FOUR INJURED IN PACIFIC HIGHWAY CRASH

Four people are lucky to be alive following a crash on the Pacific Highway west of Iluka this morning.

Just before 8am paramedics were called to Wooombah, with reports of a fuel tanker on fire.

When they arrived, emergency services discovered a multi-vehicle accident, involving two trucks and two cars, one towing a caravan.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash, however it appears an elderly couple towing a caravan pulled onto the Pacific Highway from Iluka Road into the path of a truck, causing the the car and caravan to burst into flames.

The truck then ploughed into a second heavy vehicle.

Four people suffered minor injuries in the crash, two were taken Maclean Hospital for treatment.

As of 11am, traffic on the Pacific Highway was still being affected in both directions, as emergency services clean up the scene.

  1. Competence testing of all people over a certain age should be implemented to reduce the alarming number of elderly driver incidences such as this
