An illustrious and highly decorated career has come to an end in Newcastle.
Northern Region Traffic Coordinator Mal Read hung up his hat today after more than 40 years in the police force.
He was farewelled by colleagues during a special ceremony, in which a plaque outlining his many awards and achievements was handed over.
