OLD EMPIRE HOTEL SITE SOLD
Another decaying Newcastle building could soon be transformed into state government office space.
Hunter Development Corporation has recently exchanged contracts for the old Empire Hotel site on Hunter street for $2.3-million.
The historic hotel shut its doors in 2003, and since then has been allowed to fall into a shocking state of disrepair, and for a time was even used as a squat.
The HDC is expected to complete the sale in November.
Earlier this year the state government purchased the old Post Office for $4.25 million, again with plans to turn it into government offices.
