TOORMINA PUBLIC IN PILOT PROGRAM

Toormina Public on the mid-north-coast is one of only five schools across New South Wales to be selected for a pilot reading program.
The Book Bank Project aims to improve reading skills by encouraging children to read for the pleasure of it.
Instead of a teacher telling students what to read and when, students get to choose a new release book at the start of each term, which they then swap once they’ve finished.
It’s hoped the program will run nation-wide by 2015.
