ALDI GIVEN GO AHEAD

An ALDI store looks set to go ahead at Fletcher, with the supermarket chain winning a legal challenge.
Newcastle Council initially knocked back the development on the corner of Minmi Road and Britannia Boulevard, agreeing with some residents who argued the site was only suitable for a small shop.
ALDI fought the decision and was today granted conditional approval by the Land and Environment Court.
I am glad to see commonsense prevail in the decision making process in giving Aldi the “go ahead” to build their Supermarket in this the biggest & fastest growing growth corridor of Newcastle. The land they intend to build has the correct zoning & I am surprised that it has took so long for Aldi to get their DA approved. We need this type of development to occur. Coles also have approval for a Supermarket complex in Fletcher & it will be good competition when both are up & running for the residents.
Good call Barbara. I just hope the council use some common sense and make Minmi Rd double lanes given that it is the growth corridor of Newie.
