SINGLETON TO HAVE POPULARLY-ELECTED MAYOR

Meanwhile, the Singleton community has voted in favour of having a popularly-elected mayor.
More than 6,500 ratepayers gave the move a tick of approval during a referendum, with the mayor to sit a four-year term.
Council says the move will minimise disruption.
Ratepayers also voted “yes” to reducing the number of councillors from 12 to nine, and to abolishing the council’s three wards.
