In a move likely to boost Jodi McKay’s chances or contesting the March election, New South Wales Labor has referred the preselection for the State seats of Newcastle to the National Executive.
At present McKay is facing an uphill battle to win preselection from the local rank and file who are still angry after she was “parachuted” into the seat four years ago, replacing long term Member for Newcastle Bryce Gaudry.
New South Wales Labor has also done the same for the seat of Toongabbie held by former Premier Nathan Rees.
Sam Dastyari, the ALP NSW Branch General Secretary used Twitter to say ” NSW Labor has referred the preselections for the State seats of Toongabbie and Newcastle to the National Executive.”
