DISQUALIFIED DRIVER NABBED

The actions of a driver attracted an early morning police patrol at Lake Macquarie.

A car pulled out of an intersection on the Pacific Highway at Belmont, then reversed back and when police began following, the car was driven onto a traffic island where it stopped.

Police initially suspected the car to be stolen as the driver was using a screw driver in the ignition.

Number plates on the unregistered vehicle had been reported stolen from another vehicle in Charlestown.

Police then discovered the 34-year-old male driver had been disqualified from driving until 2058.

Along with three other people in the car police allegedly found a small quantity of drugs, walkie talkies,binoculars and gloves.

The driver was arrested to appear in Newcastle Court.
