SURFER ATTACKED BY SHARK AT CROWDY HEAD

A 48-year-old man has been attacked by a shark while surfing at Crowdy Head on the mid north coast.

The man is believed to have suffered serious arm injuries after being struck by what was described as a large shark just before 7.00pm Wednesday.

Paramedics treated the man on the beach and the Westpac Rescue helicopter was tasked to transfer the patient to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital.

The surfer is in a stable condition and told rescuers the shark came in fast, bit his forearm and took a large chunk out of his surfboard.

It’s the second serious shark attack in a week. Last Wednesday a 24 year-old woman was attacked while wakeboarding at Jimmys Beach at Port Stephens by what was believed to have been a 4 metre Great White.

Lisa Mondy is recovering in the John Hunter hospital following surgery for severe arm and neck injuries.
