IRONMAN GLORY FOR JACOBS

Sydney’s Pete Jacobs has won Port Macquarie’s Ironman Australia triathlon.

The 29 year old led from start to finish to complete the gruelling the 226-kilometre event in just under eight and a half hours.

It’s the first Ironman win for Jacobs, who denied New Caledonian triathlete Patrick Vernay a fifth straight win.

Veteran campaigner Jason Shortis placed third.

The women’s race was won by Caroline Steffen from Switzerland in a time of nine hours and 29 minutes.
