LORD MAYOR GIVES WAGE TO CHARITY

When Jeff McCloy became Lord Mayor of Newcastle last year he promised to donate his salary to charity.
Well today he made good on that promise. In a low key ceremony his wife Tracey, the Lady Mayoress, handed over his first three months wages to the Newcastle Combined Charities Christmas Warehouse. The Salvation Army, Samaritans and Wesley Mission Newcastle each received a cheque for $10,000. The money will be used to help kick-start the charities’ Christmas Warehouse.

Over the last six years, the three welfare agencies have pooled their resources to make sure around 4,000 less fortunate kids across Newcastle and Lake Macquarie wake up on Christmas Day with a gift.

The $30,000 will go towards the charity’s operational costs.
