RARE GLIMPSE OF AN UNDERWATER GARDEN

An underwater survey is monitoring the impact of encroaching sand and human activity on a unique coral habitat at Port Stephens.
Like giant pink cauliflowers, these soft corals near Nelson Bay provide shelter for an amazing variety of marine life, including seahorses, anglerfish, cowries and cuttlefish.

The Hunter Catchment Management Authority will compare images taken earlier this year, with a new survey, to measure the extent of sand inundation and boat anchor damage to the coral beds.
