LISMORE IN BOX SEAT TO HOST NEXT YEARS UNI GAMES

Lismore is in the box seat to claim hosting rights for next year’s Northern University Games.

Council says it’s unaware of any other genuine competitor for the six day event, which has just wrapped up in Armidale.

The games attract between 1300 and 1500 athletes from universities in Northern New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory.

“And they stay here for four to six days to its a great event for the city, economics of the city and the social part of the city as well.”

Council is still in final negotiations with games organisers.

A decision is expected in the next few weeks.
