The new Newcastle based, Westpac Rescue Helicopter has been dispatched on its first mission. The aircraft has been sent 200 kilometres offshore to collect a sick crewman from a bulk carrier off Port Macquarie.
The $10 million aircraft was formerly used by the New York Police Department and has been undergoing a refit in Newcastle since arriving in June.
