Byron Bay’s Ocean Swim Classic has been given an early birthday present with the state government donating $5,000 to the event’s 25th anniversary next year.
The annual challenge sees almost 2,000 participants swim from Wategos to Main Beach, and is a major fundraiser for several local charities.
Organisers say the donation will help cover running expenses and help keep donations to a maximum.
“We’re trying to organises something special for our 25th, being our 25th. And also trying to crack the half a million dollar mark we’ve been able to give to charities over the past 25 years”
The event kicks off next May.
