MARGAN SAYS HE’LL LEAVE

The head of the Hunter’s vineyard association says he’ll consider leaving the tiny town of Broke if the state government decides to renew AGL’s coal seam gas exploration licence in the next few months.

“They promised me they wouldn’t allow the exploration of coal seam gas in areas of viticulture in the lower Hunter and there’s an opportunity coming up in the next couple of months to actually make that happen.”

Meanwhile a Cessnock councillor will next week call on his collegues to send a delegation to state parliament, in support the fight against coal seam gas.

“They’re going to have gas wells in the vineyards and the possible destruction of an industry that’s supported this area since the coal mines started.”
