MATT BANTING BECOMES PRO JUNIOR CHAMPION AT MANLY

Port Macquarie’s Matt Banting has taken out the first ever, men’s pro junior at the Australian Open of surfing in Manly.
The giant killing 17-year-old has been taking the senior ranks by storm recently, but did just enough in today’s final to overcome North Stradbroke’s Tim McDonald by less than a point.
“Been waiting for a pro junior for a good two years, I’ve got to the semis and my first final I’m so stoked to get the win.”
In the women’s event, Newcastle’s Philippa Anderson finished runner up in her second pro junior final in a month.
Anderson struggled to grab decent waves, eventually going down to Victoria’s Nikki Van Dijk.
