Newcastle experienced an intense and highly localised, rain event last night causing flash flooding along parts of the coastal fringe.
90-millimetres of rain fell in total, with Merewether copping 56-millimetres in an hour.
A cold layer, combined with a southerly and warm sea temperatures, made perfect conditions for the downpour.
