BANTING ON TARGET AT SURFEST PRO JUNIOR

Port Macquarie surfer Matt Banting has survived a scare, during his round of 16 heat at the Surfest Pro Junior in Newcastle.

Sitting in third spot, with time running out, the Australian Open champion produced an 8.75 to advance to tomorrow’s quarter finals.

Jordin Watson is the only other Aussie left in the boy’s draw.

Meanwhile in the girl’s pro junior, Philippa Anderson scraped through her first heat by just point one five.

She returned this afternoon to win her round of 16 heat and move into the quarters.

Anderson’s rival, Nikki Van Dijk, who beat her in the Aussie Open final, also remains in the hunt.
