Lake Macquarie Councillor Kay Fraser says she has concerns for the future of Belmont Mall if it is opened up to one-way traffic.
Cr Fraser has organised a meeting at the Anglican Church tomorrow to help make the community aware of the plan, which could see the ANZAC memorial re-located.
Introducing traffic to the mall is an option mentioned in council’s new town centre plan, set to go on exhibition soon.
The plan recognises a need for change to help the business district prosper after the part closure of a nearby shopping centre.
Cr Fraser says she believes opening the mall to traffic is to please a major developer which is keen to move-in on the old Franklins site.
