LIGHT PLANE CRASHES HEAVILY IN GLOUCESTER

A farmer is lucky to be alive after his light plane crashed into a paddock, short of the airstrip at Gloucester at around two this afternoon.

The 49-year-old, an experienced pilot from the small Hunter town of Moppy, made the emergency landing not long after takeoff, when the plane’s engine stopped working.

The aircraft broke up on impact.

The pilot was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition with back, and possible internal injuries.
