  1. Gas is an excellent fuel if it can be produced without the disastrous side effects of this industry. There is a long list of problems that still have not been addressed by the industry and it shows now that they are finally having some regulations placed on them. Turning the Northern Rivers into an industrial landscape is not welcome by most who live here This is in direct conflict with Richmond Valley Councils own Community Strategic Plan,(5 rural and development 5.1 long term goals) No one I wrote to could tell me who would compensate us for our real estate losses. No one could tell me how much of this gas was allocated for the domestic market! It seems it was all export. So to say “the lights will go out” is nonsense and scare-mongary by Chris Hartcher and others. The amount of water needed is insane! The amount of toxic salt residues in insane. No one has yet explained how they would be dealt with. All wells leak according to industry’s own reports. So another major problem with CSG is that it needs thousands of wells, therefore exponentially increasing the fugitive emissions of methane and other toxins, into the atmosphere. Methane is 20 to 100 times worse than CO2 depending on the time frame you use for calculations. 20 to 100 times! That is neither clean or green! The risk to the water tables are too great! You cannot fix it after it’s polluted! The risks are too high. The list goes on and on. The re-newables technology is available now to take over most of our energy needs. I hope this is a lesson to all investors that the future needs to be in renewables!

  2. This is great news for the community. Congratulations to all those who have fought against this damaging exploration. The long term damage to water tables and environment should be much worse than a few jobs lost. Government should invest in clean energy alternatives and that would create better jobs.
