BAND’S LONG MARCH TO CALGARY
It costs a lot to get a marching band from Newcastle to Calgary in Canada – but there’s no turning back now for the Hunter School of Performing Arts.
Students held a march-athon along Newcastle’s foreshore over the weekend, getting used to hauling their instruments over a distance, and raising funds for the trip.
The band has been selected to march in the Calgary Stampede centennary celebrations, which draws a crowd of around 350,000.

Did you Guys send an apprentice out to film the band? Thanks for coverage of the road not the kids. A little disappointing from a quality station like yours or was the best on the cutting room floor…..disappointing coverage as so many of the local Community have supported the kids on the road to Calgary.
Thankyou NBN for supporting the band!
A big thank you to everyone at NBN who has supported our “Long March to Calgary” . Whenever we have asked you guys have shown up and given us your unconditionally commitment. As parent it is greatly appreciated the coverage you have given these guys. Thankyou
They are one of only 25 bands worldwide to have been selected to play at the 100th Anniversary Calgary Stampede Grand Parade. And these are local kids, taking the Hunter, and Australia, to the world. Would have been happy to see a little more of them in your coverage as a fitting tribute to their hard work and achievement.
