NEWCASTLE VENUES JOIN FORCES TO CURB DRUNKEN VIOLENCE

Five of Newcastle’s late night venues have joined forces to tackle drunken violence and anti social behaviour.
The licensees of MJ Finnegan’s, The Cambridge Hotel, Queens Wharf Brewery, Fanny’s Nightclub and King Street Hotel will share information, meaning if a patron is kicked out or barred from one venue, they face being banned from all five.
The alliance, calling itself the Newcastle Entertainment Precinct, today announced a number of initiatives to curb alcohol related violence.
One of the measures includes sharing information between the ID Scanning Systems that have been in use since 2011 at The Cambridge Hotel, Fanny’s and Finnegan’s.
The new measure will come into place on Friday July 13.
Earlier in the year two of the Newcastle venues topped New South Wale’s most violent list earlier in the year.
Finnegan’s Pub registered 31 assaults in 2011, while Fanny’s Nightclub recorded 30.
It, along with 31 other New South Wales licensed premises, now face special restrictions including a 2am lockout, ceasing alcohol service 30 minutes prior to closing and a limit of four alcoholic drinks per customer per order after midnight.
