Diabetes awareness week has wrapped up in the North West, with experts saying the national campaign is important as ever to raise awareness about the chronic condition.
“They say that for everyone who knows they’ve got diabetes there’s another person out there who doesn’t know and undiagnosed it can actually lead to quite serious complications,” Diabetes Clinical Nurse Consultant Lyn Gilks said.
Diabetes currently affects around 1.8 million Australians, but is a manageable condition.
“Advise loosing weight because often people with type two diabetes are overweight um they may need medication and sometimes they do need insulin,” she said.
