CHARGES UPGRADED TO MURDER OVER TWEED ASSAULT

A 36 year-old man has had assault charges upgraded to murder after the man he allegedly punched at Tweed Heads earlier this month died in hospital.

Police claim the attack took place on Dry Dock Road.

The 42 year-old victim was unconscious when taken to Tweed Heads Hospital.

He was then transferred to Gold Coast Hospital with serious head injuries, but died early yesterday.

The 36-year-old appeared in court this morning where his initial charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and causing grevious bodily harm to a person with intent were upgraded to murder.
