The New South Wales Premier has paid tribute to the founder of Newcastle engineering and ship building company Forgacs, who’s died after a short illness.
77-year-old Stephen Forgacs passed away yesterday afternoon.
Described by Barry O’Farrell as one of Australia’s true success stories, Mr Forgacs bought an engineering company in Newcastle in 1962 after fleeing the Soviet invasion of Hungary.
He went on to build one of the country’s largest privately-owned ship building and engineering groups.
Mr Forgacs is survived by three children and six grandchildren.
