LIFEGUARDS TRAIN UP FOR SUMMER

With summer just around the corner, lifeguards on the North Coast spend today brushing up on essential skills.

 

Dozens hit Lennox Head to take the annual Australian Lifeguard proficiency test.

They were out to challenge themselves against the Australian Lifeguard standards. Making sure they’ve got the stamina and training needed to keep the local beaches safe.

Lifeguards from Byron Bay, Ballina and the Richmond Valley areas gathered at Lennox Head this morning to begin a day of gruelling training and testing.

“Every year at the beginning of the lifeguard season we run proficiency up and down the coast for every life guard and returning and new lifeguard.”

The tests are mandatory for all new lifeguards and give the more experienced guys an important skills refresher .

“It’s very important and purely just to make sure all their skills are up to date as the continue changing environment with the techniques we use in first aid and rescues.”
