Abuse victims, their families, politicians and lawyers all came together in Newcastle today as the push continues for an inquiry with royal commission powers into sexual misconduct in the church.
The state government is so far resisting the move, which would ultimately reveal how widespread cases are, and potentially change a law which would make it possible for churches to be sued.
“It says the church does not take responsibility for the conduct of its priests. There is no precarious liability.”
