A Lake Macquarie waste management facility was forced to close today after thieves broke into an office overnight, causing around $20,000 worth of damage.
They also stole a safe from Awaba tip, containing up to $10,000, before leaving the scene in a council truck.
The office’s communication and IT systems were damaged and the facility’s security camera system was destroyed.
The tip is expected to re-open tomorrow.
