TOWNSEND FALLS SHORT AT CHINA MASTERS

Former Charlestown golfer Aaron Townsend has fallen agonisingly short of victory at the $1-million China Masters.
Two bogeys in the final five holes saw him miss a sudden-death playoff.
Townsend had the chance to force his way into a three-way tie on 17, but his putt rolled wide.
He gave himself another opportunity on 18, but his earlier form deserted him.
A third round 72 was enough to clinch third place and a $70,000 payday.
China’s Liang Wenchong drained a four-metre putt on the fifth playoff hole to claim the trophy.
